MacIntosh kicks off Sanibel Reads
MacIntosh Books and Paper recently launched a new book club, Sanibel Reads, which is open to everyone near and far, virtually through Facebook.
Owner Rebecca Binkowski said November’s book is “My Husband’s Wife” by Jane Corry. Young lawyer Lily marries Ed and is determined to make a fresh start and leave the secrets of the past behind. Joe, a convicted murder, comes into the picture when she takes on her first murder case. Lily is drawn to Joe and willing to risk almost anything. Lily’s next door neighbor, Carla, a 9-year-old, also has learned the power of secrets, that they can get her what she wants. Sixteen years later, Lily finds Carla on her doorstep, revealing a chain of events that can end only one way.
“Many of our customers are already in book club’s here, or at home. Frequently the books are more serious reads. Because of this, there will be a deliberate attempt to keep our selections beach reads. Not to say that they will be light and fluffy, but intentionally enjoyable to a broader audience,” she said.
The beauty of having a book club through Facebook, Binkowski said is it should not interfere with the individual’s current book club. In addition, they do not have to make it to a meeting.
“The discussion is all taking place on the Facebook page. I expect it to be a continuous discussion,” she said.
Those interested in joining the club have to purchase the monthly book from MacIntosh, either by stopping at the store, or ordering it over the phone, to receive the password that allows them to join the closed discussion group on Facebook.
“I think this is going to be really fun. I think it will be great for the whole island to be reading together and connecting in a new way,” Binkowski said. “Ten percent of each month’s book sales will go to an island charity. The first month’s selected charity is Zonta of Sanibel and Captiva.”
December’s book will be posted on the Facebook page.
