Sanibel Adult Co-Ed Softball League begins fall season

By Staff | Sep 27, 2017

There is still time to register for the Sanibel Adult Co-Ed Softball League which will take place at the Sanibel Ball Fields beginning Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Participants must be registered by Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Char Durand, recreation assistant at the Sanibel Recreation Center, said the league is one of the oldest adult programs on the island.

“Sam Bailey played in it for a long time,” Durand said. “It’s an honor to be associated with it.”

Five teams consisting of 15 people are able to play. The cost is $520 for Sanibel Recreation Center members, for non-members, it’s $545. T-shirts and trophies will be award to the top teams. The league will meet every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. until right before Christmas. The spring softball league will start back up again in February.

Participants must be over 18 to join. One of Durand’s favorite aspects about the softball league is the wide range of diversity found within the team.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are – you can play. We have so many unique rules, if you’re not capable of running, you can have a runner. The fact that we have men and women and people of all ages playing makes our program very unique,” Durand said.

A mandatory coach’s meeting will take place at the Sanibel Recreation Center Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Char Durand at charlotte.durand@mysanibel.com or call 239-472-0345.
