Throw F.I.S.H. a Lifeline campaign kicks off Sept. 3
To help F.I.S.H. restock its food pantry during the organization’s most critical time of year, Bailey’s General Store will hold their annual Throw F.I.S.H. a Lifeline campaign beginning Sunday, Sept. 3.
“I came up with the idea about five years ago because this time of the year is our busiest time here at F.I.S.H. The reason being is because a lot of the snow birds leave and our neighbors who need help are still here,” said Nicole McHale, board chair of F.I.S.H. “Our food pantry is very depleted.”
The campaign is fairly simple: at the register, customers have the option of filling out a coupon that can be obtained from the display or when they’re cashing out. The coupon can be filled out in $10 increments. Once the campaign is over, Bailey’s will take all the coupons and buy the most needed grocery items at cost for the F.I.S.H. food pantry.
“It’s so important for neighbors to help neighbors in a time of need. What an extremely generous community we have that has always stepped up for us in the past. We really appreciate it,” McHale said.
The most common items they buy with the money are peanut butter and jelly, nonperishable items, pasta sauce, pasta, grits, Boost and paper products.
“Last year alone, our food pantry distributed over 131,000 pounds of food,” McHale said. “There were 502 families that used the food pantry last year.”
Calli Johnson, project manager at Bailey’s General Store, said the campaign is aimed to help out F.I.S.H. during their skinny time.
“With our buying power, they’re able to get greatly discounted food supplies and anything they need at a really great price,” Johnson said. “We’re happy to do that for them.”
The campaign will also take place at Bailey’s Marketplace at Sundial Resort & Spa located at 1451 Middle Gulf Drive.
