Captiva Plan near completion, Captiva Drive moves forward
Since last month’s Captiva Community Panel meeting, minor wording changes were made to the Captiva Plan and Land Development Code.
One of the most notable changes refers to the plan’s historic development pattern. South Seas Island Resort is its own entity.
“The Captiva Plan and the Land Development Code are basically the same as we had at the last meeting, said David Mintz, vice president of the Captiva Community Panel. “The next steps, assuming the county accepts the data and analysis, (the plan) will go to the LPA then the Board of Commissioners.”
The Local Planning Agency meets the fourth Monday of the month. The plan will be presented to the LPA either Aug. 28 or Sept. 25.
Once the plan is adopted by the Board of Commissioners two tasks lie ahead before the panel: first, they will have to develop code language to implement the plan and work on other community issues that can be addressed by the code. Then, the panel will have to get back to land planner David Depew to review the plan.
Mintz also announced that the Lee County Department of Transportation completed the Captiva Drive survey. The survey will tell where the right of way is and what is private property and what isn’t. Once the panel looks over the survey, they will get in contact with LCEC and property owners along Captiva Drive so the project can move forward.
Also during the meeting, Jay Brown, chair of the Wastewater Committee, said that they are close to retaining TKW Consulting of Fort Myers as the engineer of the wastewater alternative study.
“They are a large, well-respected consultant group who have done projects like ours in the past,” Brown said.
Brown hopes to hold a public meeting about the study late October or early November. The study will take approximately 120 days to complete.
