Joan Emilius

Joan Emilius died surrounded by her beloved children in her home on July 3, 2017 in Sparta, N.J. after a long illness. She was 84. Mrs. Emilius was born on October 27, 1932, one of a set of twins in Yonkers, N.Y. to her parents, John and Cecilia Brennan.

She married Paul Joseph Emilius on June 12, 1954. The Emilius’s moved to West Milford N.J. in 1955 where Paul started Emilius Associates /GEOD Corporation and Joan dedicated her time to raising seven children. In 1987, the Emilius’s moved to Sanibel, Florida and henceforth split their time between Sanibel and Sparta, N.J. Joan was soft spoken, gentle and well loved. She was known for her kindness and compassion for others. She had a big heart that enfolded many. She was an active and dedicated member of her Church and the communities in which they lived. As a highly admired hostess, she hosted many parties and celebrations over the years for both family and friends. Joan was an accomplished tennis player and volunteered for many organizations including Hospice, Birth Haven, the Sanibel Historical Society and Altar Rosary Societies. Above all, Joan was a MOM, like no other.

Mrs. Emilius was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Paul. She is survived by her son Paul and wife Mary of Vernon, NJ, daughter Sharon Abbott and husband Danny of Sparta, NJ, son John and wife Maureen of Wall Township, NJ, son Christopher and wife Janet of Reading, MA, daughter Laureen Poulakis and husband Bill of Wakefield, MA., daughter Allison Larocca of Wantage, NJ, and son Eric and wife Juli of Fort Myers, Fl. Grandchildren include Noel, Heather, Casey, Ashley, Alisha, Alexis, Randy, Jimmy, Jack, Joe, Luke, Georgia, Paul, Taylor, Sammy, Ethin and Breena and great grandsons Levi and Oliver.

Mrs. Emilius will have her ashes interred along with her husband Paul in a private ceremony on August 19, 2017 at the St. Isabel Memorial Garden, Sanibel, Fl.
