Registrations are being taken for the local construction industry’s annual poker tourney.

Organized by the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, the 2nd Annual Ron Schmitt Construction CCCIA Hard Hat Hold’em Poker Tournament will be held July 14 at the Palmetto-Pine Country Club. Dinner will get started at 6 p.m., followed by the shuffle up and deal at 7 p.m.

Registration day of will kick off at 5:30 p.m.

“We welcome all players,” Bill Johnson Jr., the association’s executive director, said.

“That’s the great thing about this tournament, you don’t have to be a member to play,” he added.

The CCCIA is a non-profit that advocates on behalf of the Cape’s construction industry.

“The main way we exist is by doing special events and membership dues,” Johnson said, noting that the event is one of three fundraisers it does every year. “The proceeds help fund our association.”

A deep-stacked tournament, all of the players will start with 10,000 in chips.

“We do have two incentives for players to sign up early,” he said.

Players who sign up before June 30 will receive an extra 2,000 in chips, while players who sign up before July 7 with receive an extra 1,000 in chips. Cost is $85 for players and $30 for spectators.

Johnson noted that the fee includes admission, dinner and one drink ticket.

“There’ll be a cash bar available,” he said.

The tournament will run as traditional Texas Hold’em poker. The first place winner will take home $1,000 in cash, while second place will win $350 in cash and third place will earn $150 in cash.

After the first three blind levels, the highest hand will receive a $100 cash prize.

“We will have various raffle prizes during the night,” Johnson said.

“We always do a 50/50 raffle,” he added.

Two blackjack tables will be set up for spectators and players.

“There’s still things for them to do once they are out of the tournament,” Johnson said.

Last year, about 110 players took part in the fundraiser.

“We probably raised about $10,000,” he said.

As of Thursday, between 50 and 60 players had already registered in advance.

“Being we’re three weeks out, it’s about right on pace,” Johnson said.

To register in advance, contact the CCCIA at 239-772-0027 or info@cccia.org.

Johnson encouraged the public to sign up.

“It’s a good night to go out with your spouse,” he said. “We have lots of groups of friends that play.”

“It’s always been a really good night for camaraderie,” Johnson added.
