The son of an elderly man found beaten to death in his Cape Coral home has been sentenced to life in prison.

Leroy James “Jim” Taylor, Jr., 59, of New York, was sentenced to life in Florida State prison for the 2012 brutal beating that resulted in the death of his father, Leroy Taylor, Sr., 91

Taylor Jr. was convicted of second degree murder following a six day trial by jury in January 2017

The Air Force retiree and combat veteran died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head and chest. He was doused in gasoline and an attempt to set him ablaze failed. Friends of Taylor, Sr. found him in his Cape home.

The murder occurred while the defendant was in town visiting. He flew back to New York after the murder and was later arrested when he returned to Cape Coral.
