We’re excited! On Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 we will celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Sanibel/Captiva Heart Walk. Since we started on this journey in 2013, we’ve shared the heart and stroke stories of 21 of our community members who were eager to tell how the unexpected happened to them. They have come away from their experiences grateful for wonderful medical care, thankful that they are still here to share happy times with their families and hopeful that others can learn from their stories.

In the four years of our walk, we have raised over $100,000 to enable the American Heart Association to continue the education, advocacy and life-saving research that have made miracles happen.

On Sanibel and Captiva, we are very fortunate to have Lee Health, Lee Physician Group (LPG) Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Shipley Center in our own backyard. The Shipley Center was established to spearhead cutting-edge research and advance new and innovative surgical techniques, including minimally invasive heart surgery. This is very real to the Heart Walk Committee, since the husband of one of our team members recently had a heart valve replaced using just a small incision on the side of his chest rather than the traditional invasive surgery.

We are very grateful to our previous platinum sponsors Sanibel Captiva Trust Company and Il Cielo, gold sponsor Chuck Bergstrom of RE/MAX of the Islands and the many others who provided not only money, but also food, the venue, parking, delivery and set up of tables, publicity, entertainment and more. If you are interested in becoming one of our sponsors for 2018, please contact Kelly Goodwien, Lee Heart Walk Director at (239) 495-4901.

We are recruiting additional volunteers to help us plan and grow our 2018 event. We welcome both full-time and seasonal residents to assist in publicity, finding in-kind and monetary donors and helping at the actual event. For further information, please contact Sandy Teger at (239) 395-0023 or Goodwien.
