Hurricane Seminar to be held April 19
The Captiva Hurricane Response and Preparedness Committee will be hosting the annual Hurricane Seminar. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 3 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Association.
Guests speakers include Jim Bjostad, chief of emergency management with Lee County Department of Public Safety and Kristen Kirchhaine of NBC’s Weather Team. Bjostad previously worked for the United States Coast Guard and was one of the incident commanders during Hurricane Katrina. Bjostad will present “Respect the Wind, Fear the Surge.” Kirchhaine will discuss the 2017 hurricane predications.
The committee will answer questions in regards to safely returning to Captiva Island and passes that are required following the two presentations. The committee consists of the Captiva Island Fire Control District and Lee County Sheriffs Department along with several dedicated island resident volunteers. The committee encourages everyone to attend this worthwhile event, including the following: full and part-time residents, business owners and employees of resorts and rental agencies.
