Cape Police SWAT team takes top spot in regional competition

By Staff | Sep 20, 2016

The Cape Coral Police Department’s SWAT Team finished in first place in the 14th Annual Region VI SWAT Competition, held Saturday at the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office gun range in Sebring.

Twelve teams, including the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Collier CERT, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota Police Department, Bradenton Police Department, Desoto County Sheriff’s Office and two Highlands sheriff’s office teams competed in four tactical events and a grueling obstacle course.

A select group of Cape SWAT operators did additional training for about six weeks prior to the event, which paid off with consistent high placement in each of the five stages, putting them several points ahead of the next closest team.

“We should all be proud of our SWAT team as they again showed that they are extremely competent group of professionals that strive to be the best at what they do,” Lt. Jack Fulop, with the CCPD’s Special Operations Bureau, said.
