Arcadia man injured in crash released from the hospital
A motorist has been released from the hospital following a crash involving Cape Coral police.
As of Thursday, Dean Edward Gage, 53, of Arcadia, had been released from the Cape Coral Hospital, where he was transported on Tuesday after the accident on Tropicana Parkway, officials reported.
At 11:44 a.m., Gage was driving a Jeep Laredo northbound on Tropicana in the outside lane and nearing the stop sign at Santa Barbara Boulevard. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he did not stop. The Jeep crashed into a Ford Crown Victoria that was stopped ahead of him at the stop sign.
The front of the Jeep struck the rear of the Ford. The impact forced both of the vehicles into the intersection, where they came to a final rest, blocking the westbound lanes of Santa Barbara.
Gage sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, the FHP reported.
The driver of the Ford, Paul Martin, 46, of the Cape, sustained serious injuries, along with his passenger, Jason Sprague, 39, also of the Cape. Both were transported to a local hospital.
Cape police officials confirmed on Tuesday that Martin and Sprague are officers.
As of Thursday, their hospital conditions were unknown.
Hospital officials reported that neither were listed in the system’s patient directory.
According to the FHP, the accident remains under investigation.
