Palmetto Pine hosting Christmas in July sale

By Staff | Jul 19, 2016

A Cape Coral country club is doing its part to help out with the Save Our Summer campaign.

The Palmetto-Pine Country Club has been collecting monetary and food donations all month, which benefits the Cape Coral Caring Center. The community-wide effort is called SOS Feed the Cape.

“We have partnered with them before,” club General Manager Tal Buchanan said Tuesday.

But, the golf club has stepped it up a notch this year by also holding a Christmas in July sale.

“It’s just a little bit different to make people think differently,” he said.

Taking place at the golf shop now through Sunday, the sale involves deals, contests and more.

“We have all of our Christmas decorations up,” Buchanan said, adding that the halls are decked with chocolate kisses under mistletoe. “We have a sale – and it’s Christmas-themed.”

There is 35 percent off on soft goods, while equipment is 20 percent off.

“We do have some others marked off with special prices,” he said.

Trivia contests with Christmas-related questions will be taking place, along with a putting contest. Participants must putt across a set-up green and those closest to the hole – or who make it – will win.

“They’ll be the winners,” Buchanan said.

There will also be drawings for prizes, which people can provide their information for.

“And we’ll draw the names out of a hat,” he said.

The winners of the various activities will be notified at the end of the week.

“We’ve got some nice prizes we’re going to give out,” Buchanan said.

He noted that for now, the prizes are wrapped up like presents under the Christmas tree.

To take advantage of the sales or take part in the early holiday fun, club members and guests only have to donate $5 to the Save Our Summer campaign or drop off non-perishable food products to help the cause.

For every dollar raised, the Cape Coral Caring Center has $6 worth of buying power.

As of Tuesday, the pro shop was working on filling its third box of donations.

Buchanan encouraged the public to stop by and donate.

Donations can be dropped off at the pro shop or with Joni Johnson in the administrative office.

The pro shop is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
