By Staff | Jul 15, 2016

Cape Coral detectives took down a drug dealer Thursday evening who did not want to go quietly, assaulting officers, wrecking a car and running through a residential neighborhood, according to officials.

During the past several weeks the Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit conducted controlled purchases of cocaine from Thad A. Yother, 26, of 4240 Capulet Lane, Apt. 107, Fort Myers.

At about 7:45 p.m., with the assistance of the CCPD Street Crimes Unit and K9 Unit, VIN conducted a buy/bust operation in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store, at 924 N..E Pine Island Road. During the takedown, Yother ignored officers’ commands and fled in a vehicle, intentionally striking an occupied police vehicle and intentionally swerving at two other officers.

He then fled at a high rate of speed, driving on and off the road in an attempt to escape arrest. A short time later, Yother lost control and crashed into a power pole support wire at Northeast Pine Island Lane and Northeast 15th Avenue, then fled on foot.

He was apprehended after a lengthy foot chase and with the assistance of a Taser.

Yother was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Jail.

He is charged with three counts each of sale of cocaine and possession of cocaine, as well as one count each of trafficking in heroin, fleeing to elude, driving while license suspended revoked, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, aggravated battery on law enforcement officer, assault on law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine with intent and resisting without violence.
