The American Business Women’s Association is a prestigious, national organization established for working women and women business owners. The ABWA is a community where women can be part of a national organization with a local connection. They come together to gain career development and pursue business opportunities while being influenced and mentored by like-minded women who really care.

“This is our only fund-raising event of the year,” said Mary Bondurant, president of the Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter of the AWBA. “We raise money for local scholarships, college tuitions and promote local business women who want to go back to school and further their education. “

The local chapter is hosting The Little Black Dress for Education Event, which will raise funds for education and help change women’s lives one woman at a time.

Plan to attend the Little Black Dress for Education Event with Brunch at Tiffany’s & Fashion Show by B Unique Boutique Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, located at 1451 West Gulf Drive.

Don’t miss the keynote speaker, Kim Carswell, who is recognized as the 2016 ABWA Woman of the Year.

“Kim was selected American Business Woman of the Year, which is the AWBA highest award,” said Bondurant. “She will be speaking about her business experiences and journey with AWBA.”

Other noteworthy speakers are Denise DeBurst Gines, ABWA District 1 Ambassador, and Dr. Sonja Ogletree Santini, District 1 Vice President.

“We will have our popular silent auction filled with baskets for golf, boating and surprise baskets of experiences,” said Bondurant. “Brunch is chicken salad, or quiche with tossed baby greens and Sundial’s fabulous chocolate cake and who doesn’t like chocolate?”

Reservations are required, call Marletta Short (913) 338-3349. The event fee is $40, which benefits the American Business Women’s Association local Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter.

“Non-members are always welcomed and would love to have them join us and see what we are all about,” said Bondurant. “We strive to make better leaders in the area, which is my favorite part of this event, to continue to improve local leadership roles.”

Bondurant has been the Chapter Women of the Year for 2014, the SWFL Women of the Year 2015, and an Approved District 1 candidate. She welcomes any woman in management, owners or employees to attend the benefit, which is meant also to introduce individuals to the ABWA mission, which is networking and support.

“This event is lots of fun and an opportunity to join us and see what we bring to Sanibel and Captiva,” said Bondurant. “I hope to see you there.”

B Unique Boutique owner Sandra Williams said they are excited to show the fashions by JAMS WORLD Trunk Show during the event.

“A portion of each fashion purchase will be donated to the scholarship fund through ABWA,” she said.

The Sundial Resort and Spa is the perfect setting for a perfect brunch and a perfect way to support the community.

“This is a wonderful event and we are so blessed to live on our island and I love to give back and hope that everyone enjoys the fashion show,” said Williams. “I encourage everyone to support the Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter of the ABWA and women’s education.”
