Passenger in serious single-vehicle crash listed in ‘fair’ condition
A passenger involved in a single-vehicle crash that injured five is improving at the hospital.
As of Thursday, Jared E. Tuszynski, 25, of 201 E. Kismet Parkway, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the accident on April 30 , according to officials.
Cape Coral police reported that Kathrine Ann Wortman, 29, also of 201 E. Kismet Parkway, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Kismet Parkway in the outside lane at about 4 p.m.
In the 1200 block, the SUV veered to the right and drove off the road.
The vehicle then veered back to the left and re-entered the road, according to police. The SUV continued drifting to the left and ran off the road into the median, where it overturned three times.
The vehicle came to a stop off the south side of the roadway, with its wheels on the ground.
Police reported that during the rollovers, Wortman and her front seat passenger – Tuszynski – were ejected; neither were wearing seat belts. Both came to a rest in the middle of the eastbound lanes.
Three rear seat passengers – an 8-year-old girl, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy – remained inside of the SUV. According to police, one child was in a booster seat and another was restrained.
Wortman and Tuszynski were trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries.
The children were transported with minor injuries; one of the boys had a broken collarbone.
Wortman has since been treated and released.
The conditions of the three children were unknown as of Thursday.
Police noted that the accident is not alcohol or drug related.
According to a report, Wortman was doing an estimated 60 mph in posted 45 mph zone.
