Two Cape residents injured in two-vehicle crash
Two Cape Coral residents were injured on Thursday when a motorist lost control of his vehicle.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Nissan 370Z, being driven by David Martin Burris, 51, of North Fort Myers, was traveling east on Pondella Road in Fort Myers in the inside lane. At 9:55 p.m., the 370Z traveled in a southeast direction for unknown reasons as it was crossing the intersection of April Lane.
Burris lost control of the Nissan, and it began to rotate counterclockwise in a northeast direction into the westbound lanes. The right rear of the 370Z then collided into the front right of a Nissan Frontier that was headed west on Pondella and being driven by Manuel Enrique Aguila, 49, of the Cape.
The 370Z rotated clockwise and collided with the curb and then traveled onto the sidewalk, where it stopped. The FHP reported that the Frontier came to rest in the inside westbound lane of Pondella.
Burris was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
As of Tuesday, he was listed in fair condition.
Aguila and his sole passenger, Ivette Sardina, 48, also of the Cape, were taken to the hospital with minor injures, according to the FHP. As of Friday, both of them had been treated and released.
