Lee Memorial Health System announces new chief medical officer

Scott Nygaard, MD, MBA, has been promoted to Chief Medical Officer of Lee Memorial Health System. Nygaard will provide strategic focus and direction for clinical effectiveness and the integration of physician leadership across the health system.

Nygaard has been with Lee Memorial Health System since 2010, serving as chief medical officer/physician services & network development

“Scott is well-respected and has built collaborative relationships with physicians and co-workers that demonstrate great leadership,” said Larry Antonucci, MD, MBA, and chief operating officer of Lee Memorial Health System. “We have every confidence in his ability to lead engagement strategies that will support a successful transition to a value-based care model. We’re excited about this clinical transformation and the many opportunities it provides to enhance care delivery and the patient experience.”

Prior to joining Lee Memorial Health System, Nygaard served as the senior vice president for Corporate Services at Via Christi Health System in Wichita, Kan., where he had responsibility for human resources, supply chain, quality, outreach services, legal services, compliance, information technology and physician relations. He also served at Affinity Health System in Appleton, Wis., where he served as the CMO responsible for Affinity Medical Group (a 230 physician multispecialty group practice), community physician relations and medical management for Network Health Plan.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to help lead Lee Memorial Health System into the future, developing a clinical strategy, with the support of our physicians, which will improve safety and transform the way care is delivered,” said Nygaard, “which is patient-centered, value-based health care that will better serve our patients.”

Nygaard is a Minnesota native who received his Bachelor of Science from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minn. He attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn. and graduated in 1987. He also earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, Minn. in 2004.
