Two adults, three children injured in rollover crash on Kismet Parkway
A single-vehicle crash over the weekend sent five to the hospital, including three children.
Cape Coral police reported that a Chevrolet Equinox SUV, driven by Kathrine Ann Wortman, 29, of 201 E. Kismet Parkway, was eastbound on Kismet Parkway in the outside lane on Saturday at about 4 p.m. In the 1200 block, the SUV veered to the right for an unknown reason and drove off of the road.
The vehicle then veered back to the left and re-entered the roadway, according to police. The SUV continued drifting to the left and ran off the road into the median, where it overturned three times.
The vehicle came to a stop off the south side of the roadway, with its wheels on the ground.
Police reported that during the rollovers, Wortman and her front seat passenger – Jared E. Tuszynski, 25, also of 201 E. Kismet Parkway – were ejected from the SUV. Neither were wearing seat belts.
Both Wortman and Tuszynski came to a rest in the middle of the eastbound lanes.
Three rear seat passengers – an 8-year-old girl, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy – remained inside of the SUV. According to police, one child was in a booster seat and another was restrained.
Wortman and Tuszynski were trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries.
The children were transported with minor injuries; one of the boys had a broken collarbone.
As of Tuesday, Wortman was listed in fair condition at the hospital.
Officials reported that Tuszynski was listed in critical.
The conditions of the three children were unknown as of press time.
Police noted that the accident is not alcohol or drug related.
According to a report, Wortman was doing an estimated 60 mph in posted 45 mph zone.
The investigation continues.
