Dead dolphin washes to shore on Fort Myers Beach
A dolphin was found dead on Fort Myers Beach near the Red Coconut RV Park around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Rae Blake, the town’s environmental and stormwater technician.
She said a resident notified Town Hall of it and the dolphin was picked up by members of the town’s public works crew, who handed it over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Frank McCloy, the commission’s spokesman for its Lee County office, said Friday that a necropsy was performed Friday morning but results would not be available for weeks, if not months.
“What we do know is there were no observable signs of a cause of death,” he said.
