Improvements for Captiva Drive discussed
The Captiva Community Panel discussed how to improve Captiva Drive during its February meeting to make it safer for pedestrians and bicycle riders.
Panel member David Mintz said the s-curve going from South Seas Island Resort to Andy Rosse Lane is dangerous. With 144 new units being added to South Seas Island Resort, the foot and bicycle traffic will only increase as individuals make their way to the Village.
He said preliminary drawings are being created to showcase a right of way and a walkway on both sides of the road. The drawings were being created to see what is doable for Captiva Drive.
“I’m not sure we have room for walking lanes on both sides,” Mintz said.
A few suggestions were made, which included creating a two-way walking lane on the west south side of the street. He said the next step is to measure the road and see how much space there is to add a walking path.
“Measure at various points and see where we can get extra footage to do a walkway,” Mintz explained.
