Gail Carol Ganter Meier
Gail Carol Ganter Meier passed away Tuesday morning, December 23, 2015 in the nursing facility of Shell Point Continuing Care Community, Fort Myers, Florida. Gail was born on January 11, 1934 in Staten Island, New York and was the second child and only daughter of George A. Ganter and Elsie May Ryder Ganter. She spent her early childhood in Staten Island and attended the Notre Dame Academy, graduating with honors in June 1952. She was the Class President, organized their fiftieth reunion and kept in close contact with her school friends. Gail was a graduate of Columbia University School of Nursing, receiving her degree in 1955. During her professional life, she worked at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, the VA Hospital at Albany, New York, and served as head nurse at the Raritan Valley Nursing Home.
In addition to her professional work, Gail delighted in the task of raising her three children in Bound Brook, New Jersey; Linda, Randy and Carl JR. Gail devoted time to volunteer endeavors, including troop leader of Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts; president of the Somerset County Medical Society Auxiliary; chair of the altar guild and reader at St. Pauls Episcopal Church; an active participate of the Ark of St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel. She was an excellent gardener! Above all, Gail loved her family and was a steadfast supporter for those in need and never stopped giving of her love, time and talent to all. Her community was her home.
Gail is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carl Meier, children, Linda Meier, Randy and wife Tracy Meier and Carl, JR. and his wife Lisa Meier, grandchildren, Amelia Meier, Augie Meier, Brad and Brett Kohlenberg, C J and Zac Meier. Her brother, George Ganter, preceded her death.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Sanibel, Florida. An internment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C at a later date.
