Best friend finds hope for Hope
“I remember the day I found out my best friend Hope was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor cancer. It was like a punch in my chest” said 16-year-old Havana Gazlay.
“All of a sudden, I wasn’t as concerned about the carefree fancies of being a teenager, I had to do all I can to support my friend!” said Gazlay, a junior at North Fort Myers High School.
Gazlay’s friend, Hope DelBrocco, 16, is a former North Fort Myers High student. The treatments for her rare condition and hospital stays have put her family under a lot of stress financially.
“I just knew I needed to help raise money for Hope,” Gazlay said. “I decided to make a donation jar and talk to the manager at my local Starbucks. I was surprised by her eager support and I am proud to say we have donation jars at every Starbucks in our district! I encourage the community to look for Hope for Hope jars at your next Starbucks visit and make a donation.”
But Gazlay did not stop there, she had to do more. She and her mom had the idea of asking people within the community to donate unwanted household items such as clothing, home dcor and furniture, basically anything that could be sold at a yard sale.
“We have received overwhelming support and donations so far!” Gazlay said.
The yard sale will be held at 2005 S.W. Embers Terrace, Cape Coral, Saturday Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“I am really hoping to raise lots of money for Hope and I invite the community to come out, buy something and make a donation,” Gazly said. “Most of all, I ask people to pray for healing for Hope.”
