A Cape Coral woman has been released from the hospital following a serious traffic accident.

As of Tuesday, Alexandra Nicole Konikow, 21, of 3328 S.W. Eighth Court, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was taken Sept. 9 after the crash on Hancock Bridge Parkway.

Police reported that a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Terry Albert Gavazzi, 73, 1828 S.E. First Terrace, was traveling west on Hancock in the outside lane. At 12:03 p.m., Gavazzi lost control in the 2000 block and the SUV entered into a counterclockwise spin, crossing past the inside lane

The Chevy hit the concrete median, crossed it and entered the eastbound lanes of Hancock.

According to police, the SUV crossed the left turn and inside lanes. Entering the outside lane, it struck the front left side and the driver’s door of an eastbound Saturn S-Series, being driven by Konikow.

The impact caused caused the Saturn to travel south, coming to a final rest in the grass between the road and sidewalk. The Chevy also traveled south and came to a final rest in the grassy area.

Both lanes of Hancock were closed for about four hours.

Gavazzi was transported to Cape Coral Hospital for treatment and later released.

Konikow was trauma-alerted with life-threatening injuries.

Police recently reported that the case may be wrapped up this week.
