Residents injured in accident released from hospital
Two Cape Coral residents were released from the hospital following a recent fatal accident.
As of Tuesday, Pedro Cabrera Rodriguez, 48, and Peter Anthony Cabrera, 19, both of the Cape, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where they were taken June 26 after the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Ryan Todd Powers, 39, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling east on Milwaukee Boulevard in a Ford F-350 and approaching Homestead Road South in Lehigh Acres. At the time, Rodriguez was driving a Volkswagen Passat north on Homestead toward Milwaukee.
According to the FHP, Powers violated the right of way of Rodriguez as both vehicles entered the intersection at approximately 3:05 p.m. The Ford truck struck the left side of the Volkswagen.
Cabrera was a passenger in Rodriguez’s car, as well as Cape residents Aida Perez Garcia, 60, and Onesimo Medaldo Rodriquez, 66. Garcia and Rodriquez were pronounced dead at the scene.
The FHP noted that neither were wearing seat belts at the time.
Rodriguez and Cabrera were taken to the hospital with critical and serious injuries, respectively.
Powers was not injured in the accident.
According to the FHP, the crash is not alcohol or drug related.
Powers was cited for a violation of right of way.
