Cape Coral man charged with aggravated battery following incident involving knife
A Cape Coral man was arrested Thursday night after officials say he slashed another man with a knife following a verbal altercation. Witnesses told police he also tried to run down the man he had wounded.
Michael Loeffel, 50, was charged with aggravated battery.
Cape Coral Police were investigating a disturbance in the 4900 block of York Street at 9:15 p.m. when they heard another disturbance in progress nearby in the east parking lot of the Parker House Apartments at 808 Miramar Street, a release from the agency states.
Officers heard a loud argument followed by observing a dark colored SUV, revving its engine and pumping its brakes, officials said.
A responding officer then was almost hit by the SUV near Cape Coral Parkway and Coronado, officials said, adding the officer made an evasive maneuver, got behind the car and made a traffic stop on the SUV in the CVS parking lot.
Loeffel was driving the SUV.
Additional oifficers who responded to the second disturbance “were flagged down by the victim, who stated he’d just been stabbed by a white male who drove off in an SUV. The victim suffered a laceration to the arm,” the release states.
“Investigation revealed that Loeffel came to that location and got into a verbal altercation with the victim in the parking lot. The altercation became physical and Loeffel armed himself with a knife and slashed at the victim, striking the victim in the arm and causing a laceration. Witnesses also reported that Loeffel attempted to strike the victim with his SUV as he was fleeing the scene,” the release states.
“A knife matching the description of what the victim said was used was located in the SUV’s center console.”
Loeffel was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Jail.
