Cape woman injured in accident remains hospitalized

By Staff | Jun 23, 2015

A Cape Coral woman is improving at the hospital after a May accident that left two dead.

As of Tuesday, Pamela Krochmal, 62, was listed in good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was transported May 13 following the crash on McGregor Boulevard, according to officials.

Susan Burns, 70, and Michael Krochmal, 68, both from the Cape, were fatally injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Harold Burns, 75, of the Cape, was driving a Kia Sorento south on McGregor. Krochmal, Michael Krochmal and Susan Burns were passengers in his SUV. At 5:35 p.m, Burns attempted to make a left-hand turn into Bridge Plaza, south of College Parkway.

Burns reportedly turned in front of a Ford F-350, driven by Jessica Orr, 38, of the Cape, that was traveling north on McGregor. The front of the Ford struck the right side of the Kia, and the Kia was pushed to the northeast, where the front of the vehicle then hit the front left of a Saturn L300.

The Saturn, driven by Graciela Ramos, 38, of the Cape, was waiting to exit the plaza.

Officials reported that Burns and Krochmal were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

As of Tuesday, Burns had been treated and released from Lee Memorial Hospital.

Neither Orr nor Ramos reported sustaining any injuries during the crash.

According to the FHP, Burns was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. However, it is unknown whether Krochmal, Michael Krochmal or Susan Burns were wearing seat belts.

It is unknown if the crash is alcohol related; charges are pending an investigation.

“Remains under investigation,” Lt. Greg Bueno, spokesman for the FHP, said on Tuesday.
