Sun Splash offering Father’s Day specials this weekend
Cape Coral’s water park is celebrating Father’s Day weekend by offering free admission.
Fathers get into Sun Splash Family Waterpark for free Saturday and Sunday with the purchase of a regular priced child or teen general admission ticket. The park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
“It would apply to grandfathers, as well,” Michelle Dean, spokeswoman for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, said on Tuesday. “It’s just one paid person per free person.”
The park began offering free admission for parents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day several years ago. About four years ago, park officials extended the offer throughout the holiday weekends.
“We did that to be able to add some flexibility (for parents),” she said.
“We are a family water park, so we encourage families to be together, spend time together and bond,” Dean said.
She noted that not all businesses offer specials on Father’s Day, like on Mother’s Day.
“We wanted to be able to offer it for both,” Dean said.
The weekend offer also helps to attract a larger attendance for the park.
“Everybody like to get a good deal,” she said. “But weather is always the main factor on what attendance is like on any weekend.”
In addition to getting in for free this weekend, fathers will have the chance to win more than $750 worth of raffle prizes. There will be a table at the front of park where they can register for free.
“There’s no cost, and it’s only open to dads,” Dean said.
The raffle winners will be selected at the end of the day Sunday.
“You don’t have to be present to win,” she said.
Some of the big ticket items include a two-day, one-night stay at Port of the Islands in Naples, a $250 gift card to Estrada Art & Apparel and four twosome rounds of golf at Coral Oaks Golf Course.
“There may be some smaller things, as well,” Dean said.
There will be no other discounts available at the park beyond the free admission.
“Sometimes the restaurant will run some special food items, but that’s not exclusive to dad,” she said.
Officials urged residents and visitors to stop by this weekend for some fun.
“We are just looking forward to everybody coming out and having a great weekend at Sun Splash with their families,” Dean said.
Parks and Recreation Director Steve Pohlman echoed that.
“It’s a great opportunity for dads to bond with their children and some may even wish to race their children on the speed slides,” he said.
