Scout salute

By Staff | May 13, 2015

To the editor:

On behalf of our eight Tiger Cub Scouts, their families, and Pack 140, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the community of Sanibel and the many businesses and organizations that have supported our Tiger den this year. It has been pure joy to serve as their den leader and to bring Cub Scouts back to Sanibel Island after many years.

Thank you to The Sanibel School and Principal Barbara Von Harten for allowing us to meet at the school for our den meetings on days when we are not out in the community, and to first grade teachers, Mrs. Angelo and Mrs. Gosselin, for assuring our Tigers made it to our den meetings at school dismissal each Tuesday. Thank you to Faith United Methodist Church in Ft. Myers for hosting our Pack 140 award ceremonies.

Sanibel Island has so many unique resources available to us, and we have had amazing experiences meeting so many helpful community members as you have opened up your facilities to us, facilitating our learning and earning our Bobcat badge, Tiger badge, beads, and belt loops. We know that without your support, our year would not have been nearly as valuable or fun. You provided us with opportunities we do not find anywhere else. Thank you so much!

Specifically, we would like to offer our gratitude to Tim and the staff at Billy’s Bike Shop, Dr. Heather Barron and the Clinic of Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), Education Ranger Becky Larkins and J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Lieutenant Justin Halligan of the United States Navy, Ms. Libby Payne (Media Specialist at The Sanibel School), Robin Brocious and RS Walsh Landscaping, Richard Finkle and Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF), Sanibel Fire Station #171, the Sanibel Historical Museum, Sergeant Scott Hoerner of the Lee County School District, Shell Point Train Museum, residents Patti and Sean Daly, and The Sanibel School Advisory Council (SAC) Chair, Jennifer McSorely.

In addition, we extend our gratitude to the City of Sanibel for including our Cub Scouts in the Veterans Day Ceremony and to Bailey’s for including us in the dedication ceremony for Francis Bailey. We would also like to thank the Sanibel Kiwanians, and Marcia and Richard Larson for graciously hosting a wonderful Boy Scout fundraiser at their home this spring to support Boy and Cub Scouts of Southwest Florida, as well as all of the community members who attended to offer support of this program. Thank you also to Jerry’s on Sanibel for agreeing again this year to support the Boy Scouts after the 4th of July parade this summer by donating the proceeds of their outdoor event food, beverage, and festival sales to us. We are looking forward to lots of fun participating in this event!

You have all contributed to our Tiger den learning to “Do our best!”
