Ding Darling visitors were shocked to spot the rare Skunk Ape on April 1.

There it was, the rarely sighted Skunk Ape, Florida’s Bigfoot, going about its business in the back bays of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

Shocked visitors to the popular refuge could not believe their good fortune, snapping photos and zooming in on the critter’s morning of fishing. Refuge rangers told visitors the Skunk Ape, which reportedly is foul smelling and hairy, has been sighted a few times, but only on the first day of April.
