Twilight Talk scheduled for April
The Sanibel Historical Village will hold a Twilight Talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the Old Schoolhouse on the village grounds. The speaker will be long-time Sanibel resident Jim Pickens.
Pickens will share his stories of early Sanibel residents and what life was like on Old Sanibel. He moved to Sanibel permanently in 1952 when he was 15 years old and has never left.
“I got to know a bunch of people who were children or grandchildren of original settlers,” Pickens said. “In some instances they came to the island when their families settled here, so they had very early memories.”
Reservations are required, as space is limited. Call museum manager Emilie Alfino at the museum, 472-4648, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost is $5 per ticket; tickets must be picked up and paid for in advance at the museum office.
The next talk scheduled – the last Twilight Talk of this season – will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, when the village welcomes Flint & Doyle, the movers of its newest building, Shore Haven.
The historical village is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The village is located at 950 Dunlop Road (next to BIG ARTS). Admission is $10 for adults 18 and older; those under 18 and members are free. Docent-guided tours are available at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at no extra charge, based upon docent availability. There is handicap access to all buildings. Admission for entrance to the Museum Store only is free.
Beginning in May, the museum will be open five days a week, Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
