Concealed Weapons application process to begin in Lee County on April 1
Beginning April 1, residents will be able to apply for their statewide concealed weapon license at the Lee County Tax Collector’s office in Fort Myers, 2480 Thompson Street, 2nd Floor. Appointments are required and available by calling 239.533.6073.
“I am pleased to offer this program to local constituents,” said Lee County Tax Collector Larry Hart in a prepared statement released Friday. “Our efforts to pass the legislation that allows our office to accept concealed weapon license applications will save both time and resources.”
Florida concealed weapon licenses are processed solely by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Due to rising demand, tax collector offices have been given authority to take applications, fingerprint the applicants and send the information securely to the department for final determination. Valid photo identification and training certificates are among the documents required to accompany the application.
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam H. Putnam partnered with Florida Tax Collectors to pass legislation in 2014 that now extends this opportunity to residents of Lee County. Lee is the sixth Tax Collector office statewide to offer the application process. Additional county offices are scheduled to come online later in the year.
“We are pleased to be able to expand this service to improve the timeliness of concealed weapon licenses to Floridians,” Putnam said in the statement.
Applications are not to be mailed to Tax Collector’s offices, officials said. Appointments may be made by calling 239.533.6073. Visit www.leetc.com/other-services for more information.
