Shell Festival volunteers stepped up

By Staff | Mar 18, 2015

To the editor:

The Community House, home of the Sanibel Community Association, has been fortunate to once again benefit from our island volunteers!

Over 500 volunteers helped to make the 78th annual Sanibel Shell Festival a success. These volunteers are from three different organizations: SCA Shell Crafters, Bailey Matthews National Shell Museum and the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club.

Over the past year the Shell Festival committee has worked hard to form a cohesive Shell Festival. The Shell Crafters work each Monday producing beautiful works of art and selling them. The Shell Club meets monthly and provides an opportunity for the exchange of information about shells and mollusks. The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum provides nine weeks of training to the Sanibel School 6th graders. They in turn share their knowledge at the Shell Festival.

We appreciate the commitment of all these entities to making the Shell Festival a success.

As with all older structures, refurbishment, air conditioners etc. are needed from time to time. Our Community House has been well used over the years and is showing her age a little more than we like. Our Shell Festival helps to provide the funding needed to keep the facility use fees low for all our clubs and organizations and has been a true blessing to the Community House.

Our president, board of directors, our staff along with our membership, wish to thank Sanibel’s Shell Festival Volunteers for their support and efforts raising funds on our behalf.

To become a future volunteer or to support the Community House through new or renewal membership in the Sanibel Community Association, contact us at (239) 472-2155 or online at sanibelcommunityhouse.net.
