Faces on Faith: A little dab will do you!
Dry, wild hair? Try Brylcreem. A little dab’l do you!
I remember those commercials from the 50’s and 60’s that promised that just one little dab of Brylcreem would make you the most popular guy in school.
I am convinced that was before there were stringent guidelines on “false advertising.”
It was amazing, however, what just one little dab of that stuff could do. It was transforming to a wild hair day!
Recently some good folks in our church, Islanders Mike and Sharon Bugler, encouraged our congregation to give just a “little dab” to help feed hungry people, and it has been amazing to see the results.
For the month of February, the Buglers and our Missions Team challenged each of us to set aside $1.00 per day to help feed hungry people right here in Lee County.
A dollar is just a little dab for sure. (Less than a cup of coffee or a soda most places!).
As February came to a close, and people brought in their dollars, the total exceeded $26,000.00.
The other amazing thing about that is that with their bulk buying power, the Henry Chapin Food Bank is able to purchase more than $150,000 worth of food with that, and provide more than 75,000 meals.
A little dab sure is making a huge difference!
But this wasn’t just about helping those in need.
We learned so much in the process. Right here in Lee County 30,000 people depend on the food bank each month. One in six adults, and one in four children in Lee County are considered at risk when it comes to adequate food supply.
Fort Myers rescue mission serves between 300 and 400 meals every day. The Salvation Army serves 3000 families each month. F.I.S.H. of Sanibel has over 800 people receiving assistance.
All of these will benefit from this little dab of love and care.
What we saw happen in families was especially touching. As whole families set aside that dollar each day for each family member, the joy of making the difference in the lives of others infused those homes.
Yep! A little dab will do amazing things! Especially when we put our dabs together for others.
