Popular chef headlines ‘Sanibel Uncorked’
Sanibel-Captiva Optimist Club presents Chef Janis Wallace demonstrating her favorite method of preparing Mediterranean Snapper on Sunday, March 8 at the annual Food and Wine Fest “Sanibel Uncorked.”
The fest will be at the Lily & Co. shop on Tarpon Bay Road across from Bailey’s General Store from 1-5 p.m. Free valet parking will be available.
Chef Janis began her culinary career in Detroit at her family’s restaurant where she worked for many years. She migrated to southwest Florida and was a chef at the former Brown Derby in Fort Myers. Chef Janis worked for 10 years in Ft. Myers Beach with East Coast Restaurants at the Junkanoo, the Ship Restaurant, and Anthony’s on the Gulf. Her expertise with fine cuisine, especially seafood, stems from the latter restaurants. Currently she is the chef at George and Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grill.
Chef Janis enjoys preparing Italian dishes, seafood, steaks and excels with barbecue ribs and prime rib.
Her demonstration at the Fest will be preparation of her favorite Mediterranean seared snapper in a lemon butter sauce, topped with sun-dried tomato, artichoke hearts and black olives, then smothered with fresh mozzarella. It’s served over saffron rice with fresh vegetables.
There will be an opportunity in the silent auction to bid on her BBQ ribs or prime-rib dinner for a party of six to eight, delivered to your home.
