Launch party planned for local author jd daniels’ new novella
Best-selling local author jd daniels has announced the release of her novella, “Minute of Darkness & Eighteen Flash Fiction Stories.”

She received a prize for poetry from Emerson College/Cambridge University in England, is listed in the Iowa Arts and Poets & Writers Directories and is an active member of PEN Women of Southwest Florida. Her poetry has been choreographed to dance and has inspired painters and clay artists at ArtPoems, a Southwest Florida poet/artist collaboration.
The second edition of her book, “The Old Wolf Lady: Wawewa Mepemoa,” was released this past summer at a party in her hometown of St. Charles. The first edition was sponsored by a grant from The Iowa Arts Council. She was awarded her doctoral degree for her collection of poems, “Currents That Puncture” from Drake University and is co-founder and an editor of Prairie Wolf Press Review. She has been teaching (and continues to teach) writing and literature at the college level since 1988.
After her June reading at Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City, Iowa, “Say Yes,” her book of poetry published in 2013, topped the Cedar Rapids Gazette’s best-seller list.
Matlacha and Pine Island have been inspiring her writing for over 10 years.
Join her and the cover artist, Cheryl Fausel, to celebrate the publication at a Launch Party at Arts for Acts Gallery in downtown Fort Myers Friday, Jan. 30, from 6-8 p.m. “Through Pelican Eyes” (her Matlacha mystery), “Say Yes” and “Minute of Darkness” will be offered for sale. Forty percent of sales will go to domestic violence victims.
Wine and donated chocolates from the Matlacha C & W Fudge Shop will be served.
On Thursday, Feb. 19, she will read from the book at the C & W Fudge Shop in Matlacha.
Daniels’ books and ebooks are also available on Amazon or Barnes and Nobels.com. They can also be purchased locally at Bert’s Pine Bay Gallery, the C & W Fudge Shop in Matlacha, the Copperfish Bookstore in Punta Gorda or the Alliance for the Arts Giftshop in Fort Myers.
