Thank you for a great Cracker Fest

By Staff | Dec 10, 2014

To the editor:

The 2014 Cracker Fest, hosted by the Sanibel/Captiva Chapter of Solutions to Avoid Red Tide Inc. (START) on The Bait Box property, was a huge hit with locals and visitors alike!

Not only did SanCap START exceed its fundraising goals, but the enthusiastic atmosphere was punctuated by a deliciously authentic southwest Florida barbeque provided by the Sanibel Catering Co. and live Irish folk music performed by the ever-charismatic band Uproot Hootenanny. As the day wore into night, guests bundled-up with jackets, drinks, and smiles in response to the expected cold front that visited Florida over the mid-November weekend.

SanCap START Board President, Dr. Bruce Neill, presided over the evening’s events as the Master of Ceremonies, with help from auctioneer Richard Johnson and guest speaker Mr. Ray Judah, Lee County Commissioner of 24 years. START’s board members and an energetic team of volunteers were essential in making the evening a huge success. Exciting auction items from local artists and businesses were up for grabs, along with the chance to experience a piece of Florida’s history. An afternoon of “Cracker Tales,” as only Sanibel’s legendary Ralph Woodring can tell, was one of the invaluable auction items up for bid. So many generous contributions were facilitated by an atmosphere of deep concern for our oceans and coastal waterways, and will make it possible for START to protect the future of our natural resources in the coming year.

None of this would have been possible without our fabulous sponsors thank you! For further comments or questions, email start@sanibelseaschool.org.
