Myra Roberts to be featured in island documentary
Myra Roberts, Sanibel artist who has become one of the best-selling painters in southwest Florida, will be featured in the upcoming documentary “7 Sanibel Artists.”
Eric Pfeifer, Broker of Pfeifer Realty Group, is sponsoring the documentary, which will premiere at BIG ARTS on March 5, 2015.
“This is a natural follow-up to the documentary ‘Growing Up on Sanibel,’ which premiered in April to a full house,” Pfeifer said. “We are pleased to sponsor films that focus on the many things that make our island paradise a special place.”
Pfeifer Realty Group has teamed with 7-time Emmy winner David E. Carter to produce films about Sanibel, its people, and its unique environment.
Myra Roberts earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art education from Arizona State University. Her Master of Fine Arts degree is in printmaking and illustration, from Northern Illinois University. Roberts taught painting, drawing, and art history for 25 years in Illinois public schools. She and her family moved from Illinois to Sanibel in 1999.
Roberts has exhibited her work throughout the United States. Her paintings are in public and private collections across the United States and Europe, including the estate of Robert Rauschenberg. When Rauschenberg purchased the painting of Audrey Hepburn, he told Myra that he knew the actress and her painting captured Hepburn’s spirit.
A 40-year retrospective of Myra’s work will open in January 2015 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers.
Each of the seven artists in the documentary is donating one of their works to be auctioned to benefit Sanibel non-profits. A unique feature of this auction is that the buyer gets to select which of ten Sanibel organizations receive the purchase price.
