Sanibel Middle School girls’ basketball set to roll
The Sanibel Middle School girls’ basketball team is set and will start their “building year” with a dozen players on the team.
Four players return from last year’s squad, including Maria Angelino-Heindl, Savannah Nippa, Peyton and Brooke Yelenich.
“We kept everyone who tried out,” said head coach Alexandra Murray. “It will be a building year, but we are looking forward to having a winning season.”
The strength of the team will be its height, which should make their rebounding a key component to its success.
“We are physical underneath the boards and will be a tall and strong team,” Murray said. “Rebounding will be a key.”
The team will be directed by its point guard in Angelino-Heindl, who is a well-rounded player. She can shoot from the perimeter, as well as penetrate the lane to create scoring opportunities for her teammates.
“She will be key to the team,” Murray added. “We are also working hard on posting up to use our height.”
The season will kick off Thursday, Dec. 4, with eight games on the schedule through the first week of February.
