Holiday Magic 2014: Santa, annual tree lighting, set for Cape Harbour
Kick off the holiday season early in Cape Coral with the 8th Annual “Holiday Magic 2014.”
Taking place Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Cape Harbour, the celebration will feature a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and a visit from Santa Claus and his workshop, along with live entertainment.
“If you’ve never had an opportunity to come to Cape Harbour, this night is magical,” Glenda Swager, the event manager at Cape Harbour, said. “Everybody’s looking forward to a great turnout.”
Every year, hundreds of families turn out to meet Santa and enjoy the atmosphere.
“We easily have over 400 kids every year, and it keeps growing,” she said. “I’m hoping that the cold weather gets everybody into that festive mood and they come out.”
There is no cost to attend the celebration and parking is free.
Santa’s workshop will be set up from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Pavilion at Cape Harbour. Visitors are encouraged to bring a camera to capture their holiday family photos for the 2014 season.
“They just get in line and wait to have their moment with Santa,” Swager said.
There is no charge to visit Santa; pets are welcome.
At 7 p.m., the Christmas tree will be lit up by thousands of twinkling lights.
“It’s a 15-foot tree,” she said.
From 6 to 10 p.m., the Derek Trenholm Band will perform live on the center stage.
“It’s a local band,” Swager said. “They’re been with us for a couple years.”
Rumrunners, Fathoms Restaurant & Bar and Pignoli on the Harbour will be open during the event to serve up food and drinks. The recently opened French Press Coffee Shop will also be in operation.
“All the shops and restaurants are open, so you can begin your Christmas shopping,” she said.
One shop, Harbour View Gallery, will be hosting an artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m.
