Blown away by leafblower noise

By Staff | Nov 5, 2014

To the editor:

The leafblower use is more than just annoying – it’s harmful to our ears without protection. It’s not only once a week, but daily. Several times we had to bring our meals and company indoors from our lanai and close the doors because of the deafening noise making conversation impossible. We need to ban or limit their use.

There’s a book of poems called “Barrier Island Reflections” by Jane Aulen. A poem “Barrier Island,” in part, states: “I am a barrier island. I ask (men) to remember as they live in my domain – protect all that you find here – there is no other quite the same.”

Little by little, we are losing what our quiet peaceful island was.
