Faces on Faith: Our amazing God!

Rev. Barbara Nave

I had a very surprising encounter with God a number of years ago. Our family experienced a car accident resulting in my leg being broken in five places. The complication of pulmonary embolisms prevented the orthopedic doctor from making repairs that would give me the best healing opportunity.

Over the next eight months it was said, I would never be active as the leg had healed almost two inches shorter and was fragile.

Fast-forward our lives a few years; I wore an orthotic to balance my steps. I had also begun a deep search through the Word of God to know Him and understand His ways.

This scripture really captured my heart: Psalm 6: 2 “Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am suffering; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled.” I had also discovered Psalms 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

I began praying those and many other scriptures using my own name personalizing it between God and I. The doctors had done the best they could. I waited patiently for The Lord to heal me.

Our church had invited a pastor from Arkansas to be our Revival speaker. He offered a Bible study at lunch and evening services. Following the noon study, I wrote on a note six things that were “broken” in my life and tucked it in my Bible.

That evening following the message pastor called for people to come forward to give their lives to Christ. Then pressed by the Holy Spirit, he invited those who needed healing to come forward. After no one responded, including me, he said he believed it to be something to do with a right leg. (You need to know that by now I don’t walk with even a limp as the orthotic balanced me … my need wasn’t obvious).

My heart began to rapidly pound within me. I knew this was The Lord doing His work. Moments later with about 10 eye witnesses, as Dr. King prayed, The Lord heard and my leg began to grow … bone, marrow, ligaments, muscles … all responded. Also within me came a great release as The Lord also healed those “broken” places in my life.

The Scriptures say that the people were “AMAZED” as they experienced Jesus healing people. I am also amazed in my day and generation that Scriptures are living and true.

Maybe this is your verse to pray for such a time as this: Psalm 103: 2- 4 “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.”
