Sanibel’s Uhler honored by Red Cross
The American Red Cross of Lee County has presented its prestigious Legacy Award to J. Thomas Uhler of Sanibel. The award was presented during a breakfast at Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers.
Now in its 11th year, the Red Cross Legacy Award recognizes a professional advisor whose life and career exemplifies the spirit of philanthropy. This individual represents great ethical practices, judgment and service to their clients enabling them to achieve their personal and philanthropic goals through planned giving.
A resident of Sanibel since 1977, Uhler is a founding principal of Uhler and Vertich Financial Planners and has more than three decades of experience in financial services in Southwest Florida. Uhler has a special interest in assisting non-profit organizations in their planned giving efforts and volunteers with a number of Lee County groups, helping them identify, educate and establish long-term relationships with donors.
He is actively engaged in numerous community organizations, including as board chair of the United Way of Lee County; board past president of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra; treasurer of the Florida Cancer Specialists Endowment executive board; a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva Islands (past president).
Uhler is an Eagle Scout and life member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He was honored as the 2011-12 campaign chair for the United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades, as Citizen of the Year by the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce and as a 2010 Laureate in the Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s Lee County Business Hall of Fame.
