CHR courting Mardi Gras sponsors
The second annual Mardi Gras Party to benefit Community Housing & Resources (CHR) is set for Saturday, March 1, 2014. The inaugural event last February, organizers say, was a success beyond expectations, attracting a sellout crowd.
CHR’s board currently is looking for island businesses and entrepreneurs who wish to have an important role in the upcoming event through their financial support.
Since 1983, in partnership with the City of Sanibel, CHR has provided low-cost housing for individuals and families who live and/or work on the island, plus senior citizens and the disabled.
“Our CHR development committee is intent on making the annual Mardi Gras Party the premier fundraising event focused on an island-based charity,” said board member Tim Garmager, who chairs the committee.
Committee members are approaching local businesses and individuals with a variety of opportunities to support the cause, one that impacts all who enjoy the Sanibel lifestyle.
“CHR needs the help of all of us to continue providing affordable housing for island workers,” said Melissa Rice, event chair and CHR board treasurer. “Living in 88 CHR homes, located in 11 complexes throughout Sanibel, are the teachers, law enforcement officers, restaurant servers, bank tellers, artists, realtors and secretaries to name but a few who enrich our community and provide an available work force and essential services for island businesses and residents.”
The Mardi Gras is suitable for all ages and will include a delicious Cajun dinner, with hot dogs for the children. Set at The Dunes Golf & Tennis Resort, with live music from the Blue Dirt Dixieland Jazz Band, children’s activities and a silent auction, it’s an affordable and fun event for the whole family.
