Two more arrested in shooting death of Cape businessman
Two more arrests have been made in the shooting death of a Cape Coral man.
Nehemiah Neal Jr., 18, of Fort Myers and Jahrell Neal, 20, of Lehigh Acres, were charged Monday with felony murder during the commission of a robbery in the death of Keith Stengel, 58, after Fort Myers police and the United States Marshals Florida Regional Task Force located the two in Lehigh Acres.
Their arrest brings the total to three in connection with the shooting that happened last Thursday evening in Fort Myers.
Brittany Stubbs, 18, of Immokalee was charged with felony murder during the commission of a robbery on Friday.
Officers had responded to a call at 6:55 on Sept. 19 in reference to gunshots heard at the Sienna Apartments, at 3725 Winkler Avenue Extension.
Upon arrival, police found Stengel, a prominent Lee County businessman, suffering from a gunshot wound. He told the responding officers he had been robbed.
He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Investigators processed the crime scene and detectives gathered evidence in the case, including cell phone records, which led them to the arrest of the first suspect, Stubbs.
The investigation revealed that Stubbs lured Stengel to the location for a robbery, officials said, adding
the Neal brothers were then wanted for questioning by police for their role in Stengel’s death.
On Monday, FMPD, with assistance from the United States Marshals Florida Regional Task Force located the two in Lehigh.
Once at the police headquarters both Nehemiah Neal and Jahrell Neal confessed to the crime, the Fort Myers Police Department said in a prepared statement issued late Monday,
FMPD Chief Doug Baker said the hard work of detectives should be commended.
“Detectives worked tirelessly on this case as they do on every case,” he said in the statement. “The investigative work coupled with the cooperation of witnesses brought us to a successful conclusion. We are pleased to bring justice to the victim’s family.”
