Carwash at The Sanibel School to benefit theater program

By Staff | Sep 23, 2013

Performing arts students from The Sanibel School are holding a car wash fundraiser this weekend to benefit their upcoming production, “Willy Wonka Jr.”

On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, they will be washing cars at the school, located at 3840 Sanibel Captiva Road. Proceeds go to purchasing the rights to the play, costumes, props, sets, and other expenses.

The car wash is a PTA sponsored event and will be parent supervised, but parents are responsible for the supervision of their own children as no school staff will be present during the car wash.

Middle school students put on two productions per year, the elementary school one per year, and there is also a holiday performance.

“Willy Wonka Jr.” runs Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7-8 and 14-15 at the school. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. and tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for children.

The play is based on the book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl, about the head of a chocolate factory who searches for his heir by placing golden tickets in chocolate bars across the countryside.
