Timbers chef invited to Oyster Frenzy
Executive “Fishmonger” Matt Asen of The Timbers Restaurant and Fish Market, a member of the Prawnbroker Restaurant Group, has been invited by the Grand Oyster Bar to participate in the 11th annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy.
Along with preparing Oysters Romanoff and Oysters Parmesan, two menu favorites, Asen will be opening oysters without benefit of an oyster knife. The event, presented by Blue Island Oyster Farms, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Oyster Bar which is located in New York’s iconic Grand Central Terminal.
Asen will be joined by Ben Pollinger, executive chef of Oceana, and Januz Noka, pastry chef of the GCOB. The Frenzy also features an oyster shucking contest, and an oyster eating contest (won last year by Sanibel’s own Lamar Williams).The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and is free and open to all. Asen is scheduled to appear at noon, with the oyster shucking contest starting at 1 p.m.
Asen will display his ABC of oysters, a framed shadowbox of 26 oysters from A-Z that is part of his collection of more than 450 oysters (which he has eaten).
