Faces on Faith: Know God, Know Peace; No God, No Peace

If someone were to ask you, “What is eternal life?’ what would you say?

We might say something about living forever or going to heaven. Funny thing, here’s what Jesus said eternal life is: “This is eternal life that they know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

Jesus said that eternal life is knowing the only true God. If you know God you will really know life, (Life with a capital “L”). The bumper sticker captured it: Know God, Know Peace; No God-No Peace!

Most folks have heard of the Apostle Paul. He was the guy who was a religious leader who was killing Christians because they were telling folks that Jesus had risen from the dead and was alive! Heading for Damascus to round up another lot of these rebels, Paul (who was called Saul at the time) met up with the resurrected Christ!

From that point on everything changed. The guy that was killing Christians had become one, and now was telling everyone that he could that Jesus was alive.

What changed Paul? Some new doctrine he learned? Some philosophy he adopted? No, it was an encounter with a living person, Jesus Christ! And over and over again in Paul’s writings he declares that it was because of that encounter he began to really live! Not only to live, but to no longer fear death.

Paul wrote, “To live is Christ, to die is gain!” His life was transformed from knowing about God to knowing the living God!

So how do you know God? God said all who seek him will find him. You look for him. He’s not as hard to find as you might think. God said draw near to me and I will draw near to you. There you have it, intentionally draw near to God and watch what happens.

God gave us creation to reveal his masterful touch. He gave us the inspired Scriptures, the Bible. He gave us the church and He gave us the presence of the Holy Spirit all that we might know him … and know LIFE!
