Fort Myers town hall meeting to discuss water quality

A town hall meeting is scheduled to inform the public about freshwater releases and the management of Lake Okeechobee.

After presentations on freshwater releases and the lake, as well as the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control System, members of the public may ask questions or provide comments.

Col. Alan M. Dodd, district commander for the Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ernie Barnett, interim executive director for the South Florida Water Management District will be speaking at the meeting in Fort Myers on Sept. 5, hosted by Lee County and the City of Sanibel.

The meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Lee County Emergency Operations Center, 2675 Ortiz Avenue in Fort Myers, from 7-9 p.m. No RSVP is required.

Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall and Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane will serve as facilitators for the discussion.
