Winifred “Winnie” Meagher Donoghue
Winifred (“Winnie”) Meagher Donoghue, of Sanibel Island and Minneapolis, died on Aug. 4, 2013.
Winnie Meagher Donoghue was born and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended Barnard College. She married Ed Donoghue and moved to Rochester, Minn. There she raised five children, continued to write for pleasure and was active in the arts and theater community in Rochester.
When her husband retired, they became Florida residents, moving to Sanibel Island. She founded the Island Writers and was an active member until this year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. F. Edmund Donoghue, daughter Maureen Carlson, and son John Donoghue. She is survived by her daughters Sheila Donoghue and Wendy West (Roddy), son Edmund Donoghue, son-in-law Tom Carlson, daughter-in-law Deborah Donoghue grandchildren Winnie Carlson (Tim Darach), Hannah O’Connor (Jim), Dan Carlson (Tara), Chenoa Donoghue, Leah Raiche (Ken), Brendhan West, and Benjamin and Nicholas Donoghue and great-grandchildren Daverus Ketchens, Evan and Ella Raiche, Fiona and Liam O’Connor, and Lucas Carlson, and loving dog Michou.
A celebration of her life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation-Palliative Care Fund.
