Coral Oaks turns 25

By Staff | Jun 5, 2013

Built a quarter of a century ago within a century-old oak hammock in northwest Cape Coral, Coral Oaks Golf Course serves up scenic views not commonly associated with many Florida courses.

Coral Oaks is an 18-hole championship course designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, whose firm designed the courses at The Club at Renaissance and the Myerlee Golf & Country Club, both in Fort Myers. The Cape course features large TifEagle greens and contoured, oak tree-lined fairways.

“It’s very unlike many Florida golf courses,” Allen Manguson, manager at Coral Oaks Golf Course and a PGA golf professional, said Friday. “Most Florida golf courses are palm trees and sand and water.”

“Some of these trees are over 100 years old,” he added. “It’s just different.”

The course boasts eight lakes and 37 bunkers, with five sets of tees.

“It’s friendly to all skill levels,” Manguson said. “It’s been a community asset for a long time.”

This year, Coral Oaks is celebrating its 25th anniversary with “‘FORE’ Months of Fun.” From June through September, there will be discounted greens fees of $25 per day before noon and $22 after noon. On the 25th of each month, everyone can play 18 holes for just $19.88 – the course opened in 1988.

Knickers Pub, the full-service restaurant and bar, will offer specials and the Pro Shop will feature limited edition merchandise with the 25th anniversary logo.

The food and drink deals include a small hot dog for $2.50, two small hot dogs and a soda for $5 and a large hot dog and a draft beer for $5.

The first 25 days of June, people can register to win one of 25 prizes on its Facebook page.

The summer promotion will culminate with a party on Oct. 18, following the 2013 City Championship Kickoff Pro-Am, which involves local dignitaries, course members and past championship winners.

Coral Oaks is open seven days a week from 7 a.m to dusk. In addition to the course, there is a practice facility that features a driving range with grass and artificial turf, a chipping area and a putting green.

“We’re a public, daily fee municipal golf course,” Manguson said.

Tee times can be booked up to five days in advance online or over the phone.

Daily rates are available for 18 holes, nine holes and twilight, walking or with a cart. Cape residents receive a discount when they provide proof of residency. Rates increase for the year in November.

Annual memberships for single, dual and children are available for residents and non-residents, along with nine-month memberships per person. Annual and monthly cart passes may also be purchased.

Coral Oaks houses Men’s and Ladies Golf Associations, with league play three nights a week.

There are PGA professionals on staff to teach golf schools, clinics, and private lessons.

The course also hosts golf outings and fund-raisers throughout the year at competitive prices.

“We host many charity outings all year,” Manguson said.

Coral Oaks Golf Course is at 800 N.W. 28th Ave.
